This article, The Implicit Punishment of Daring to Go to College When Poor[1] was published in 2019, and much of what it conveyed gave me a moment to pause and reflect on what and how I could do more for my community. Next, 2020 brought COVID-19 and we learned of the huge enrollment declines for the class of 2020, “Students from high poverty high schools (where 75% or more of students are eligible for the free or reduced price lunch program) saw the steepest decline, …”[2]
Armed with information like this, I implore every black or brown person to do more to ensure that their people don’t lose all of the progress that they have made. The time to act is now and CFSCBO considers it an honor to help one or many on their collegiate journey. However, to do this, we require donations from those who share our passion and understand the importance of a college education.
